Resume Results
Most hiring managers are inundated with resumes. Did you know that
the average time your resume has to grab their attention is ten
seconds? That's right – only ten seconds.
If your resume is too wordy, if important information about your skills does not jump off the page, if your resume has a cluttered appearance, or if it's simply too much work to read, you may not even have a chance to interview for that perfect position.
Over the years, resumes have evolved from straightforward curriculum vitae to marketing documents highlighting skills and accomplishments rather than duties and responsibilities. Employers' use of databases further complicates matters by requiring the appearance of key words and phrases for resume retrieval. Still, a resume should have a clean, neat appearance, and should rarely exceed two pages – a daunting task!
Many job seekers tell us that they have trouble bragging about their skills and accomplishments. A well executed resume will open that door, making it far easier to discuss accomplishments during interviews.
Frustrated by excellent candidates with poor resumes, Joan Berry founded Resume Results in 2003. With a Bachelors degree in English, and a combination of Human Resources and recruiting background, she offers an unusual depth of knowledge to potential job seekers.
Ms. Berry has been in the Human Resources profession since 1983, when she joined OSRAM Corporation, a Siemens company, to recruit staff for the company's first U.S. manufacturing start up. Over the next ten years, she earned successive promotions leading to Director of Human Resources. During that period, the company grew from 30 to over 600 employees. She subsequently joined Knapp Consultants, Inc. as a technical recruiter, focusing on securing engineering, scientific, and management talent for manufacturing clients worldwide.
With over 25 years' experience in hiring and placement, she has seen hundreds of thousands of resumes and knows how to best present a candidate's assets.
