Switch Platform Operator
JOB DESCRIPTION:
This position is responsible for providing operational and technical support for company’s Softswitch environment. General activities will involve the management, maintenance, and troubleshooting of Class 4/5 Softswitch platform equipment, and Media Gateways. Individual will also be required to perform regular monitoring of the Telephony Network and identify opportunities for design and performance optimization.
Additional duties required are:
• Documenting methods and procedures, work instructions, test plans and results, provisioning guidelines, installation procedures and inter-functional process flows.
• Working in tandem with Internal Network Engineering and Incumbent Local Exchange Carriers (ILECs) to plan and provision all Telephony required circuits and equipment.
• Leading the operations team in responding to alarm/outage conditions for Telephony outages and resolving trouble conditions.
• Installation, configuration, testing and support of company’s VoIP system from a call processing perspective, including verification that individual VoIP components are operating in accordance with their respective product specifications as well as testing of the end to end telephony system for operational readiness.
• Implement the initial design and provide ongoing support of the VoIP platform including VoIP protocols and standards (e.g., Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), Media Gateway Control Protocol (MGCP), and Voicemail/Unified/Integrated Messaging Systems (IMS).
• Establishing surveillance, fault management, and performance management criteria for the Network Operations Center’s (NOC) staff.
• Managing Tier III support to NOC on escalated technical issues on a 24/7 basis engaging vendor Technical Assistance Centers, as required.
• Providing technical support for acceptance testing of new equipment and operational support for company’s field technicians.
QUALIFICATION/EXPERIENCE:
• Minimum four years experience with SS7 switch platforms, Softswitch equipment, media gateways, and Class 4/5 switching hardware and software including circuit turn up and testing, in an environment that provided 24/7 support.
• High functional knowledge of integrated services digital networks (ISDN’s).
• Knowledge and experience working in/with telephony technical support and operations management organizations.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to communicate complex issues effectively through written and oral communication to internal and vendor personnel.
• Experience creating system support documentation including instructional procedures, provisioning guidelines, test plans, problem documentation, and functional process flows.
• Qualified candidates should have a Bachelors degree (BA, BS) preferably in Telecommunications/Network Engineering or a related field. Candidates with previous equivalent training and work experience will be considered.
